Recently refurbished, Chantal Cottage not only addresses the growing needs of the community it serves but also its rich legacy.
Chantal Cottage's history begins in the early 2000s, when the Mercy Family Centre transferred it to Catholic Healthcare, along with its co-located McQuoin Park. This set the stage for a mission built on service and support for those in need.
Today, current statistics indicate that two in three individuals with dementia reside in the community, while approximately 1.7 million Australians are involved in caring for someone with this condition.
While caregiving is fulfilling, it can impose significant stress on those who undertake it.
Research shows that around three in four primary caregivers of individuals with dementia experience physical or emotional effects from their caregiving roles, often reporting feelings of exhaustion, anxiety, or depression.
Recognising these challenges, Chantal Cottage offers much-needed respite care for clients and their caregivers. The centre can accommodate up to twenty-four individuals in a secure and dementia-friendly environment.
Clients benefit from a welcoming, homely space filled with natural light, where they can enjoy hot meals and participate in various engaging activities.
These include reminiscing sessions, sensory experiences, and social outings to museums, parks, or shopping centres, all designed to enhance the quality of life for those attending.
Chantal Cottage is more than just a respite centre; it is committed to changing the narrative around dementia.
Built on the principles of care and service, it will continue to serve the local community for those in need of respite and dementia care.
