Zorica Miladinovic, Care Advisor, Home & Community Services, South East Sydney
What makes our care so special at Catholic Healthcare? It’s our amazing employees! We love shining a light on our employees who every day make a difference to the lives of our residents, clients, and their families.
Times have changed, and we are now more open to discussing our mental health struggles. Self-care suggestions, such as walking in nature or swimming in the ocean, help us feel better in the short term, but they rarely sustain us.
For care advisor Zorica Miladinovic finding purpose and meaning in serving others has been the secret of a fulfilling existence.
‘By prioritising the needs of others, we cultivate a sense of fulfilment and purpose that transcends the challenges we may face,’ said Zorica.
Courage and positivity in the face of real-life challenges are lessons learned on the job of the value of service and the power of caring for others.
‘In our interactions with the elderly, we’ve discovered profound lessons that mirror the values we uphold within Catholic Healthcare [of compassion, integrity and courage],’ said Zorica.
‘I want to emphasise a fundamental principle that guides our work: caring for others is the best form of self-care.’ Zorica Miladinovic.
‘We should all believe the true measure of success lies in the quality of care and compassion we provide to those we serve,’ she said.
A client’s resilience and positive view on life, despite considerable ill health, inspired Zorica to reflect on her experience after she left the client’s home that day.
‘As caregivers, we understand the profound impact our actions have on the elderly and their families in our care. However, it is in giving of ourselves to others that we nourish our own well-being,’ she said.
Working with clients has been an opportunity for Zorica to care for others and also a reminder of the power of companionship and connection.
‘When we extend kindness, empathy and support to elderly, we not only improve their quality of life but also enrich our own.’ Zorica Miladinovic.
‘Caring for the elderly reminds us of the interconnectedness of all humanity… that we are part of a larger community, bound together by shared experience and mutual support,’ said Zorica.
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbour as yourself.’ Luke 10: 27-37 (as chosen by Zorica Miladinovic)
‘In coming together to care for the elderly, we create a network of compassion and strengthens us all,’ she said.
