Social isolation from family, friends, and culture can hinder good physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. Catholic Healthcare is here to help our clients improve their quality of life through our free volunteer programs.
Does engaging in a discussion about current affairs or family matters, the book you are reading, or the television show you are watching, appeal to you?
Would you like a cheerful conversation over a coffee at a café, enjoy a walk around the garden, or help with a crossword clue?
Friendly volunteers can provide companionship and friendship through in-home visits or social chats over the phone at a frequency and time that suits you best.
For 95-year-old client Joan Hine, receiving weekly phone calls from volunteer Rowena Brookes has become the highlight of her week.
‘My friends have passed away. I still drive but have no social group that I`m involved with. So, Rowena’s phone calls are precious to me, we talk about everything. If my day wasn`t great, she certainly makes me feel better after talking to her!’
All our volunteers have been vaccinated against COVID-19 and have undergone training and stringent security checks for your peace of mind.
‘I look forward to Rowena`s calls every Wednesday. She is just like family. We have a common interest in dogs, as I was a dog breeder, as is Rowena. We exchange family stories; I know all about her family, as she does about mine.’
