There was a distinct air of sacredness and respect as the residents and staff from Maranatha Lodge in the South Coast’s Batehaven gathered to celebrate the Home’s 30th anniversary.
The Home draws its name, ‘Maranatha’, from an ancient Aramaic phrase meaning ‘Come O Lord’ and, befittingly, the Home has a long history and tradition associated with the church.
To mark the milestone, Residential Manager Tracey, hosted an afternoon high tea with 30 residents and staff paying tribute to the Home’s history.
“The land on which the Home sits was originally owned by Mann’s nursery. It was then bought by Cambridge Credit and then sold to the Batemans Bay Catholic Church Parish. Catholic Healthcare then took over in 2006,” says Tracey.
“We have witnessed the Home grow steadily over the years from originally a 35 resident Home to now housing over 86 residents.”
Local parish priest Father Martin gave a prayer and blessing beforeTracey presented award hampers to four of the longest-serving staff members; one of whom was Maintenance Coordinator Bernard, who received a long-service award for his 23 years’ service -- the longest tenure!

“I am so proud and honoured to be presented with this award. It is a great acknowledgement and has personal meaning for me,” says Bernard.
Other award recipients included two personal care assistants and a laundry assistant.

“We are like a family here. The community at Maranatha Lodge is particularly close-knit, with many staff and residents holding long tenures or other connections to the Home,” says Tracey.
“We are truly proud of the level of care and commitment that is shown to our residents. We’re excited as we enter a new chapter and for what lies ahead for Maranatha Lodge.
“We’re hoping that we can continue for another 30 years or more!”
Maranatha Lodge is a place of tranquility where residents can enjoy bushland and coastal views. The Home offers permanent, respite and dementia-specific care in a community setting.
