Thank you to the Twiddle Muff team of knitters from Holy Name of Mary (Villa Maria) Parish in Hunters Hill for their kind donation of 30 individually decorated and colourful ‘twiddle muffs’ for residents of St Anne’s and St Joseph.
The knitters have been meeting once a month since July to create the twiddle muffs and are now knitting another set for Lewisham Nursing Home's Dementia Unit. Twiddle muffs are particularly useful for people living with dementia – providing sensory stimulation received in ‘twiddling’ their various textures. They keep restless hands busy and soothe and comfort those who are anxious or agitated.
Parishioner, Myra Edwards (pictured centre right), initiated the knitting group as her husband is a resident of St Anne’s in Hunters Hill.
Recreational Activities Officer, Klara (pictured centre left), was on hand to receive the donation. Klara is looking forward to sharing the twiddle muffs with residents and has commissioned some hand knitted poppies for Remembrance Day in November.
If you are keen to help and be part of the knitting group, or if you would like to find a good use for old leftover wool, contact Patricia at 0417 744 918 or dbpc@bigpond.net.au.
